Brief details of the Organisation:
Activities:-
Since 1971 , as a renowned theatre group specifically we had given best efforts to promote and develop our drama activities. We had undertaken workshop on Drama and its relation with politics, religion and socio-economic situation of our country. As a result we have already staged a large number of One Act and Full Length Dramas at different places in Kolkata & outside. Up till now we have presented so many Productions namely “GANA MANUSHER PANCHALI”,”KRIPONER DHON”, “NABA DHARAPATH”, “DOLA”,”PRANAASH VAASANA”, “JAPITO”, “RATER ATITHI”, HARADHANER DASTI CHHELE”, “UMMEED”,”NAWABNAMA”, “KARNAKATHA”, “DASTAK”, “GARDISH” . Our latest Production is “BAAL BHAGWAN”. Presently we are staging “KAAL KOTHRI” and is fully based on 3(three) months workshop with assistance of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi” and “PANCH PARAMESHWAR” with assistance of Ministry of Culture, New Delhi. We also participate in Drama Festivals in various places of our country organized by Zonal Cultural Centres. Renaissance has also taken up the Theatre in Education Programme of the Human Resource Department, Govt. of India since 2007-08 and currently we are arranging Drama Workshops in the following schools. 1. Shree Jain Vidyalaya, Brabourne Road. 2. Gyan Bharati Vidyapith, Burrabazar. 3. Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Dumdum.4. St. Francis Xavier, Howrah.5. Apeejay, Saltlake. 6. Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya, B.T. Road. 7. Amar Bharti, Kalakar Street.
We have organised different Group Discussions, Debates at our rehearsal room. Experts like Ashoke Pramanick, Goutam Ghosh, Shibabrata Karmakar, Dr. Prasanto Chatterjee have presided over in these talks.

OBJECTIVES:-
Our Institutions Primary objective is definitely to preserve and nourish Drama. Apart from using Drama as a tool for creating mass awareness to remove socio-political evils from our society, we have taken up different innovative measures from time to time, to do the same in a more direct way.
How we do it?
i) We have regularly arranged drama workshops in slum areas and created plays for them based on national integrity; it develops in them a view that is not bound by the chains of casteism and gives them a better recreation option than consuming alcohol, betting and many such things. ii) Our efforts for arranging workshops for the Deaf and Dumb children is also mentionable where we arranged drama workshops for them with help of DISHA Foundation. It really helped them in a great way to boost their confidence. iii) We have also organized Drama Workshops for daily waged workers (blue collar) for giving them a better recreation option. Different plays on different themes of National interest were prepared by them like on Population Control, Aids awareness, Anti-casteism, and our greatest success came through when through one of these Workshops a Play was created based on Political Awareness; CHARANDAS M.L.A. became a huge success all over Kolkata. iv) Renaissance’s Children Theatre Unit set up in 2009-10 was made with a view to inculcate Moral values, cultural heritage and socio-political awareness in Children aged between 12-18 years. Currently we have 41 children in this unit and these 41 boys and girls rather than spending hours every day on social networking sites or loitering on streets, malls and cafes; are investing their time in something Creative and something that will help them a great deal in years to come in every aspect of their lives.
